Waiakea's Kokua Initiative is a new landmark program for investing in local community projects and non-profits. The Kokua Initiative focuses primarily on education, addiction, and environmental stewardship here in Hawai’i. We're proud to be the first beverage company in Hawai’i to fully compensate each employee to volunteer at least 8 hours of their time, every month, for a variety of local organizations.
Founded in 1964, BISAC (Big Island Substance Abuse Council) is a nonprofit focused on helping individuals and families reclaim their lives from substance abuse and mental health problems. They offer services through their intensive outpatient, therapeutic living, adolescent school-based services, adult mental health, and Po'okela vocational programs to save lives and make their community a better place to live.
BISAC envisions a community where everyone can be free to live a life of health, happiness, and overall wellbeing. With that in mind, their goal is to treat individuals battling alcohol and drug abuse and reduce the destructive effects that consequently come after. With BISAC's support, clients gain long term skills that help prevent relapse and maintain stability in school, work, and family life.
In July, our Waiakea team volunteered at BISAC's Summer Jam. For the last 7 years, BISAC has hosted this annual, all-ages event to bring awareness to substance abuse, raise money and promote sobriety. Our Waiakea team participated in a bus pull competition and spent time with the keiki, helping chaperone woodworking, building, and other fun crafts and activities.
Mahalo to all of you for your support! Without you, we wouldn't be able to support our community in impactful ways. Stay tuned for more to come from the Waiakea team!
